Intuition~ Knowing When You Can Trust It

"The more and more each is impelled by that which is intuitive, or the relying upon the soul force within, the greater, the farther, the deeper, the broader, the more constructive maybe the result." Edgar Cayce

Hi Readers:

While there is more to learn about intuition, the fact that it exists is rarely in question. Albert Einstein claimed, "the only real valuable thing is intuition." We all have intuitive moments but often feel insecure to trust them. Read on to learn how to recognize intuition from logic, and how to create more intuitive moments you can trust.

An Intriguing Study

The Institute of Heart Math, focused on decoding the intelligence of the heart, conducted a study. They showed 26 participants 30 calm pictures (landscapes, cute animals, etc.) and 15 disturbing pictures (car crash, bloody knife, etc.). Measures were used to investigate where and when in the brain and body intuitive information is processed. Astounding results showed participants had significant changes in heart rate 5-7 seconds before an emotionally disturbing picture appeared and then sent a message to the brain. This remarkably shows the heart is involved in the perception of future external events as well as processing and decoding intuitive information. It also found females more attuned to intuitive information. Click here to learn more about the study.

Understanding Intuition

Intuition is knowing without knowing how you know, a natural inner knowing or truth not based on external stimulus. The obstacle is that it competes with logic. We rely more on thinking. As we exercise intuition we hone our abilities and make better decisions, ask better questions, face fear with trust, and improve relationships.

How Do Intuitive Messages Show Up?

If you receive messages kinesthetically, you may feel a sensation in your stomach, heart, joints, muscles, or energy level. If you receive cognitively, you may experience a hunch, an aha! moment, or notice connections occurring. Finally, experientially would put you in the right place at the right time with the right people, have things falling into place synchronistically, or all options fall away except one.

1- Notice where your intuitive messages are coming from.
2- Focus on that part of yourself that sends the message vs what you are thinking.
3- Pose clear questions with clear answers.

3 example questions from Debbie Ford's book, The Right Questions, are:

"Will this choice propel me toward an inspiring future or will it keep me stuck in the past?"
"Is this an act of self-love or self-sabotage?"
"Does this choice empower me or does it disempower me?"

How can you know when you are experiencing intuition?

When logic is at work you think you know (not sure), you need to know answers, ego may be present, you are drawing from tangible evidence, and your agenda is involved. When intuition shows up it comes to you, you are often caught off guard by a thought or image, and you are in a state of trust. You may experience a knowingness, a feeling of elation, effortlessness, things happening "by coincidence" (not really). It keeps showing up until you pay attention and act.

Ways to know when it is something other than intuition:

Intuition does not call for urgency and is not emotionally charged. It is not full of stress and effort, and it does not go against the core values that you stand for.

A checklist to support you to become more intuitive:

___ I work my intuitive muscle and realize it needs to be exercised to develop, and will weaken without use.
___ I use extreme self-care to slow down my mind. I know that an overwhelmed, tired, hungry mind breaks lines of intuitive communication.
___ I notice how I think and feel in the moment. Intuition shows up in the present not from the past or future.
___ I spend more time in my heart than in my head. Once there I take notice to the first thing that came to mind.
___ I am genuinely honest with myself. I tell the truth about the message and leave my agenda out of it.
___ I am connected to feel, see, hear, and sense what my body is trying to tell me.
___ I acknowledge where I feel intuitive messages in my body?
___ Rather than disregarding, I seek to learn what the message is trying to tell me.
___ I indulge in creativity, yoga, walking, deep breathing, music, meditation, a relaxing environment, visualization, or the activity of my choice to help stimulate my intuition.
___ I trust my first thought. I trust in my day dreams
___ I ask myself clear sensory based questions in order to experience what I may feel versus think.
___ The more I talk with others about my intuitive sense, the more I expand on it and draw more insight.

4 Steps to Set Your Mind for Success

EzineArticles.com Platinum Author

"One can never consent to creep when one feels an impulse to soar." Helen Keller

How long have you waited to be happy at work? Or to write a book? Or bring home the income you deserve? Are you your own best support system or biggest diversion? Consider this, the cheetah has no problem using its gift of speed. The bald eagle easily uses its keen eye sight and ability to soar. Dolphins joyfully display their playfulness. Imagine what is possible for humans with our unique gift of the mind if we focus on what serves us vs. what holds us back. Discover 4 steps to take to set your mind for success.

1- Know what is limiting you~ Do you like mysteries? Here’s one that can change your life. Let’s investigate. What beliefs are at the core of who you are? Pay attention for one week to self-limiting beliefs that show up. As a detective, be consciously aware. Keep a journal handy to jot down notes. Beliefs can present themselves as a label you place upon yourself partnered with an assumption such as Single Parent- there is only so much I can do. They can reveal themselves in a negative statement such as “I can’t be ….”, “I can’t do…”, “ I’m not good enough”, I’m not smart enough…”. Beliefs may be uncovered in an assumption such as “there’s not enough time”, “that’s too hard”, or “he’ll say ‘no’”. Write down the beliefs that are restraining you from what you want.

2- Get to the source of the diversion~ A good detective digs deeper. Whose voice is attached to the belief? How did this belief become attached to your life? Is it legitimate? Is it serving you? Or limiting you? Jot your notes. I have to warn you. We hesitate to go within because we subconsciously know what may be lurking at the source. That 4 letter word… fear! Write down the fears you discover that are holding you back.

3- Rewrite your limiting beliefs and fears with an unlimited confident attitude~ Turn “I can’t” into “I am”, “that’s too hard” into “I know I can do this part”, “I don’t have enough time” into “I know what’s important and I do that first”, and “Single Parent- there’s only so much I can do” to “Single Parent- the world is my resource. It’s abundant and lacks nothing.” Let me know if you need help with this. Reread your new attitudes daily until it becomes part of who you are. A simple task that makes an impact.

4- Stand strong and respond~ Do not give into self-limiting beliefs! When they show up mount up. When you hear “you will never be …” respond by saying “says who? I determine my value.” When you think “you are going to make a fool of yourself” , respond “and I will love myself for having the guts to try.” And when you believe there is no time left for your dreams, drop what’s not as important and stand up for who you are.

Are you willing to do what it takes to set your mind for success? Will you do the detective work to gain access to your unlimited potential? What I want for you is to break out of the bounds of limits and become your own best Success Coach… Starting Now!

Shift Your Attitude to Gratitude & See Your Actions Change...
I Love That!

As I began my morning jog one day last week I found myself really struggling. It was hot, sticky, and humid. My legs felt like each one had a sand bag strapped to it. The mosquitoes were out in swarms. Ugh! There was no way I would make it unless I could shift my attitude. A phrase came to me that I started to play with...”I love that...”. I became so carried away that before I knew it I was within yards of finishing. The run had become effortless. My attitude shifted and my actions changed. It shifted away from being self-absorbed into gratitude, and I shifted from quitting to completing. If there is something you are struggling with... try it! A shift in attitude can free you and it’s quite fun! This is what I could recall.

I love that...when I walk and jog I am living a healthy lifestyle.
I love that...when I cross the finish line I will feel awesome!
I love that...when I start off the day with exercise I start off the day with a success.
I love that...the more I exercise the easier it becomes to breathe.
I love that...when I exercise my clothes slip right on.
I love that...when my muscles ache after a run its a sign that I’m growing and becoming stronger.
I love that...when I exercise I become more tone.
I love that...exercising gives me more energy through the day.
I love that...I have two legs to exercise on.
I love that...I can breathe.
I love that...if I don’t cross the finish line I will have gotten closer to my goal and will be stronger because of it.
I love that...I have been given the gift of another day.
I love that...being nervous before a talk is a sign that I'm facing my fear which always leads to interesting places.
I love that...planes fly over me all day carrying people to where they want to go...safely.
I love that...I can hear the sound of the traffic on the freeway, the sound of people going to their jobs.
I love that...some of those people are going to jobs to help other people get jobs.
I love that...I know someone who is looking for a job and has chosen to help a small group of unemployed individuals find jobs with no strings attached.
I love that...when someone needs help there are thousands of people, organizations, and churches who are looking for them because they want to help people in need.
I love that...we have FREEDOM!
I love that...wherever I am...wherever I go...God is with me.

This all happened naturally and yet the shifts are very clear. In the beginning the focus is on exercise and being self absorbed. Then I shift to gratitude while still looking inward. When I looked up and noticed a plane flying above, it shifted me to gratitude with regard to others. When I heard the traffic I thought...what’s good about that?...and immediately remembered all the people I have talked to who are out of work. Finally, gratitude in the fullest expression of all that I am. This is not meant to sway anyone in their views. It is to give you the opportunity to try the “I love that...” phrase and see where it takes you.

If you are feeling challenged in exercise, work, or day-to-day life or you just want to take life to a higher level use your five senses to take you away into gratitude. See appreciatively, listen intensely, smell deeply, taste using each and every taste bud, and feel the positive energy of what is going on inside and around you. Chances are you will find an abundance of things to be grateful for that you can get excited about...Starting Now!

Dare to Take Action Challenge:

When your inner critic is getting the best of you consciously change your thoughts.

Try the “I love that...” phrase and see where it takes you.

Use your five senses during this exercise to experience life more deeply. Notice what's around you. Take in the beauty, great smells, savory tastes, wonderful music, great fabrics, and warm hugs. What do you love in your business and your life?

Be the Wind Behind Your Sails-Eliminate Your Self-Limiting Beliefs

“Believe deep down in your heart that you are destined to do great things.”
Joe Paterno

Imagine that you are a beautiful sail boat on the high sea of life, and the gusting wind is the way you talk to yourself. Will your wind be behind your sails encouraging you forward so that you swiftly glide through the sea on course and are able to scope the many possibilities? Or is your inner critic boldly blasting strong gusts of wind in your face forcing you to step back, alter your course, and expend your energy with barely a glimpse ahead?

Kudos to Christopher Columbus who was able to look beyond the horizon. What could you accomplish if you were able to rid yourself of your inner critic and his/her comrade, self-limiting beliefs? If you were not limiting yourself, what would you be doing right now? How would your life be different? Hmmmm.... I know easier said than done. This week notice the way you talk to yourself. Write down the voice. Whose voice is it? More importantly, what is the tone? How can you change that voice if it is holding you back from what you want?

Create a plan. Here are 2 exercises and 1 thought that may help. The first exercise is when you catch the voice cutting you down or holding you back, immediately change what you are saying. Think about how you would talk to your best friend if she/he were in your shoes and use that voice with yourself. I used this method on the way to a public speaking engagement about a year ago. Public speaking was my greatest fear. As I headed to the all day event that I was hosting, my inner critic was on a roll. When I recognized that obnoxious voice I turned the talk around and said “You can do this...no problem....think of how great you will feel when it’s over...it’s uncomfortable... and the rewards will be awesome” and so on. The day was a success, I had fun, and continue public speaking. The second method is to picture yourself as a child. We all feel pretty much the same inside as we did as a child, right? Imagine your inner critic talking to that child. It becomes easier to put a stop to it. Choose to stand up for that child within, and don't allow anyone to criticize or discourage him/her. And the thought? We are all doing the best that we can at any given moment. So congratulations! You are great right now and should not have any limits placed on what you can do and be.

Be very clear about your intention and follow your heart. Create the intention of where you want to go and what you want, yet not so much that you lose sight of the opportunities and possibilities that show up around you. If you want to increase your possibilities, increase your centers of influence. The centers of influence being the people that you partner with in order to help each other. When you are crystal clear about where you are going, you are better able to educate others so that they can assist you. By the way, remember to revel in the journey.

As your journey leads to stretching outside of your comfort zone, choose goals that you are confident you can reach. When you set small goals that you know you can attain you set yourself up for success. You create a track record, build confidence, and increase momentum. People around you can see and feel the energy flowing. These many small successes one-by-one will be the wind behind your sails to quiet your inner critic and eliminate those self-limiting beliefs. With each small success your wind will gain strength, and before you know it you will be gliding to new and exciting places. So I request you go for it and set the first goal...Starting Now!

Taking Action:
Notice how you talk to yourself...the voice...whose is it?...the tone.
Create a plan of action to change the voice the next time it shows up.
Be crystal clear about your intentions, yet be open to possibilities.
Choose small goals to build a track record, gain confidence, and build momentum.
