Authoring Your Own Destiny I'm in quite the hurry to write this post. You see I had clients this
morning, my daughter has a birthday party in which we still have to run to get a gift, my son is teaching a dance class tonight
that I will have to deliver him to while I watch the progression of Hurricane Alex and how it's churning in the Gulf will
effect our travels on Houston roads. It is easy to see how one could begin to feel their destiny is out of their hands. Yet
as I have learned from experience and as a coach, you do not progress when you fall into the role of a victim- victim of circumstances,
victim to the environment you were raised in, etc. Fortunately, there are many, many role models around us at any given moment
who have found ways to take control and author their own destiny.Irene C. Kassorla said, "You must have control of the
authorship of your own destiny. The pen that writes your life story must be held in your own hand." Afterall,
if you don't take control of your life there are plenty of people who will volunteer to control it for you. Four thoughts
come to mind right off the bat:
1) The pen is in your hand- Take
responsibility for where you are. Know that the past has given you gifts that you can draw on at any time to improve your
career or business or relationships, etc. You have the choice to persistently persue your dreams.
2) Your decisions should come from an authentic place-
Trying out for 'American Idol' when you have not had any success singing is not coming from an authentic place,
it is a pipe dream. Make decisions to take action based on your faith, values, passions, strengths, and that guiding gut feeling
that keeps stirring in the pit of your soul. Share who you are fully.
3) Set boundaries-
Protect your destiny by setting boundaries. Debbi Fields, founder of Mrs. Fields Cookies, recalls her husband immediately
saying, "Oh sweetie, that is such a stupid idea." While it is important to listen to feedback of others it is ultimately
your choice in how you want to use or discard that feedback.
4) Take action on what makes for a story you can feel great about- Move out of your comfort
zone to try new things to find your passion, build new skills, learn more, leverage your strengths, volunteer more, build
your client base, reach more prospects, tell that special someone you love them, and don't be afraid to get dirty.
What
are you doing to write your destiny? Are you taking responsibility
for where you are? Are your choices and actions writing a
story that pumps you up? Are you connecting with others? Is your story getting
better through each page?
Have a blast
authoring a relationship, life, career, business that makes you feel great about who you are no matter what is in the past...
Starting Now!
Sorry for any typos... will be back later to edit... for now off running as I write my own destiny!

Stop Doubting- You Can Be a Champion When I say to a group, “you, too, can be a champion” most
will admit their first thought being something to the effect of, “no” or “not me” or “I’m
no champion.” To be a champion is to be a winner, victor, defender, protector, an advocate, or to fight for a cause.
While demonstrated vigorously in the World Cup, the Olympics, or fighting for a cause there are certainly ways to bring being
a champion to your career, business, or even parenting. While we think of being a champion as competing against others there
is also the opportunity to compete with ourselves to become the very best we can be and reach our set goals. Vince Lombardi
once said, “inches make champions.” Here are a few things we can learn to help us with our journey in being a
champion.
Inches lead to knowledge and experience-
Champions are hard workers in their area of passion. The many small steps they take lead to knowledge, skills, and experience.
As they gain expertise they are able to make more exceptional moves that lead to greater success, reaching set goals, and
being a champion. This makes a good argument for failures to be seen as successes. Moving through failures gaining incite
instead of sitting in self-doubt propels you closer to the big plays, running a successful business, getting that promotion,
excelling at a project, or leading your cause.
Inches lead to achieving goals- Many quit because they expect big results too fast.
They miss the opportunity to succeed. Maintain focus on your ideal end result instead of the obstacles or mistakes made. Continue
progressing forward. A champion looks at mistakes only long enough to learn from them, analyzes obstacles long enough to see
options and choose a plan of action. Step by step progress occurs even though there may be setbacks along the course.
The inch you push
through when you feel you can not go one more inch makes the difference between great and exceptional- Know
that you are capable of more than you know. This is why having someone else provide support and the accountability factor
is more than just helpful. Others can see your potential. You are more likely to take more action or go the extra inch (or
mile) with a coach or accountability partner by your side. Nevertheless, there is much to be said about partnering with God
and developing the mindset that brings out your inner strength and more than you ever imagined.
Champions are often remembered for great plays but it is the small steps that give them the training,
skills, knowledge, and experience to make exceptional plays. It is the inches that lead to the goals. And when tired and feeling
as if you can not go any further it is the next inch you push through that propels you from great to exceptional. You, too,
can be a champion. In what area of your life do you want to be a champion? How can you break your action steps into inches,
the small steps that move you to achieve goals?... Starting Now

Make Your Bucket List & Begin For those who missed the popular film, The Bucket List was a 2007 movie directed by Rob Reiner. Two terminally
ill cancer patients, played by Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman, head out on a road trip with a wish list of things they
want to do before they 'kick the bucket'. They have the time of their lives. We get so caught up with responsibilities
that we put off what we always wanted to do or our hearts' greatest desires. The question then becomes: Does putting
off what we want cause us to miss out on living authentically and being on purpose? Let's talk about why you should
begin a Bucket List, what goes on it, and how we can all do this together.
Why should you have a Bucket
List? The thing is we really can not live authentically and be true to our life's purpose if we ignore those strong desires
that go on a Bucket List. What if taking the class you keep thinking about is the first step to a passionate
career choice? What if taking the time to do the hiking that you love so much is going to guide you
to your life partner who has the same passion? Many people have a desire to 'help' others. Yet they find that when
they do they gain so much more than they ever imagined.
This summer is a great time for us all to make
(or update) our Bucket Lists and take action. Get out paper and pencil or pen. Write down everything that flows
to you easily when you think about what you want in your lifetime. Ask yourself: If time and money were not an issue,
what would I choose to do? How would I choose to spend my time? Who would I like to get to know or be with? Where
would I want to be? What places would I visit? What new things would I try? How do I want to stretch or challenge
myself? What do I want in place to make things easier for my family when I go? What do I want to aim for financially?
Is there some way or with some one that I need to heal? Build your list to 100, if possible.
Now is
the fun part. Begin! Look at your list. What can you do right now? Take action to do what you love, to take risks,
to have a thrill, to mend where needed, to connect with others, to see yourself as a force of nature capable of experiencing
so much more than you ever imagined.
When you look at your list and see items that seem impossible for the time
being, open yourself up to the possibility. Talk with others about it. Put it out into the world and see what doors may open.
When I was in high school my parents and I were in Bermuda watching the beautiful sailboats come in to the port. I said
to my parents, "someday I want to sail around to different islands and explore." My mother quickly replied, "dream
on!". During my college years I was in the Outdoors Club and we were sitting around a campfire after whitewater
rafting down a river. Somehow in conversation with our chaperoning college professor I mentioned this dream of mine.
He responded that a past professor at the college used to take that trip over Spring Break every year. My college professor
rapidly took action and by Spring Break 15 of us and a hired Captain set sail for a week exploring islands in the Bahamas
at an extremely affordable price. I heard they continued that trip every Spring Break for years to come. So not
only did I benefit but many, many others benefited by not allowing my dream to die. So go ahead...
get started! Feel free to comment on what you are doing to take action on your Bucket List to encourage others
to do the same. Either comment here on the Blog or better yet on the Discussion Boards of our Facebook group @ http://bit.ly/startingnowfacebook . Begin ... starting now!

3 Tips for a Top Notch Summer– Reaching Goals while Having a Blast As the last day of school comes and goes I feel the same
tendency I had as a child... drop everything and scream, "let's go play!" After all, extreme self-care is so important!
I also notice how some use the summer as an excuse to procrastinate then regret it later. Here are a few tips to keep working
on your set goals while having a blast!
1- What Do You Want to Achieve by Labor Day: While staying in line with your annual goals set short-term goals for the summer. Determine
how you want to develop personally and professionally. How do you want to be different? What change would you like to see
in your career or business? Choose your focus for the summer.
In addition, make a list of what you will do this summer to enjoy your family and enjoy your life!
What is something you love to do? What can you do with those you love to really make the most of your time off together? Include
your favorite activities, your favorite people, and the things you keep thinking about. It does not have to be expensive. 2- Create a Simple Consistent Plan of Action: Simple and consistent are key. Plan your summer schedule. Consider keeping an early riser schedule. Summer
mornings are refreshing and a great time to get work done. Add some structure by blocking time for work and time for play.
Plan family outings for a certain day of the week. This also teaches kids to make time for work and play. Integrating the
two works sometimes such as having the kids help with housework (blast the music, dance around, create a race) or taking a
great book to the pool to gain knowledge while relaxing. However, it is best to separate the two to maintain focus. Protecting
your time with some structure helps savor moments and develop efficiency. There is no time wasted wondering what to do when.
Know your game plan by planning ahead.
3- Take Action Daily: When you know your plan you can move towards developing yourself and your business while having a blast!
Keep your plan in front of you daily. If you fall off course one day, no worries. Get back on track. Make this summer the one where:
~ you grew the most and played to the fullest, ~ you connected with great people, ~ you worked hard and still had a blast!
Ideas
for Personal & Professional Development: Build a skill, gain knowledge through reading, research, or a class, exercise regularly,
develop/improve an important relationship, reduce expenses, save more, add a new line of income, get organized, get to know
more intriguing people, improve communication, overcome a fear, learn to eat healthier, etc.
Ideas
for Business Growth: develop a product/ service, create a marketing plan, upgrade to exceptional customer
service, improve follow-up strategies, get to know more intriguing people, improve or develop a website, get to know the needs
of clients, help people, refine your budget, develop employee incentives, create a free bonus product, etc.
Ideas for Having Fun: Try something new, do something you absolutely love, do something
you enjoy but haven't done for a long time, do something you've been thinking about, make plans with your favorite people,
get to know more intriguing people, take positive risks, etc.
Take Action Now: Write down these words (with a few lines between each one) Professional, Personal, & Loving Life Now. Under each
area write your summer focus (the #1 thing you want to attain before Labor Day). Under that write what you will gain when
you achieve it. Highlight the reward.
Now block time to take daily action towards your set goals while having
a blast! Stay focused on the rewards!
